Blogger Summit: Location Announcement

21 Mar

The Blogger Summit is really beginning to come together. You have all been so helpful in responding to the questions posed to you so far, and for that I thank you. I prefer not to strong-arm people, but I’m really good at it when necessary.

Becca and I last left with you options regarding location for the upcoming Blogger Summit. I must admit, I was a bit surprised by the results. We have a lot of people on the East and West Coasts so I thought for sure the winning location would be somewhere in those areas. Always keeping me on my toes, you collectively voted for Houston, TX.

Somewhere along the way, someone suggested that Austin may be a better location. Becca and I talked about it, and agreed hosting it in Houston’s sexier sister city would be ideal. Get excited Hooked on Tonics, it looks like Austin, TX will be the location of the very first Blogger Summit!

greetings-from-austin

I’m very excited as Austin has a slew of cool things to do and see. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m looking forward to going to Texas! Before we pop champagne bottles, there’s one big detail still left to decide, and that’s of the date for this legendary event.

Here are the proposed dates:

  • August 23rd-25th
  • August 30th-September 1st
  • September 6th-8th
  • September 13th-15th
  • October 18th-20th
  • October 25th-27th

The first date is the arrival date, and the last date is the departure date. This will give the bloggers a couple nights (and one full day!) of hanging out with one another. If you want to arrive earlier, leave later, show up in the middle of it all, please do.

I’d also like to stress that this is not an exclusive event. People who can attend can include, but are not limited to:

  • People who read blogs but don’t write them
  • Spouses/significant others
  • Friends/family members
  • Bloggers from, *gasp*, other blogging platforms
  • Your clergyman
  • Someone you met on the plane and would like to sleep with

Sometimes it’s nice to have a buddy in these kinds of situations. We really just want to be able to get together and meet our friends from the interwebz face-to-face, and have a good time. No WordPress account is required for that.

Please make sure to leave your preferred dates in the comment section. We’ll give it a week or so, and update all of you with the official Blogger Summit dates. GET EXCITED PARTY PEOPLE.

Next time I hope you’ll consider Colorado! We have much better skiing….
    Love your blog!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:06 pm #

I need to go to Colorado one day. Maybe a Winter 2014 meetup in Colorado?

  3. Lyssapants 03/21/2013 at 2:45 pm #

THIS is amazing. THIS RIGHT HERE.
Even though there is a very slim chance I’ll be able to make it, here are my choices:
    September 13th-15th
    October 18th-20th
    You’re awesome for organizing this.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:05 pm #

You seriously better be there. Even if it means canceling your wedding. This is more important, obvs.

Because Texas Longhorns football is bigger than any religion in Austin in the fall, I took the liberty of posting a link to the school’s 2013 college football season here. You’ll notice that between the end of August and the beginning of December, the team (and the town) has two weeks open WITHOUT a game, or the additional 80,000 drunk folk sportin’ clothes of the burnt orange variety… AND one of those weeks lines up with all the planets of the Blogger Summmit perfectly… that would be October 18-20.

Then again, if you WANT 80,000 temporary friends, family and/or significant others there to party like it’s 1836 (insider Texas joke)… I’m all in, y’all!!!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:04 pm #

Man, you’re a guy who plans ahead. We should have recruited you to help us.

  5. iRuniBreathe 03/21/2013 at 11:21 am #

I think everyone who attends needs to make a post about it for those of us who can only party by proxy (that is, by reading what everyone else did). Great job organizing!

  6. Katie 03/21/2013 at 10:43 am #

I voted on Becca’s, but I vote for August 30th-September 1st, but I’m pretty flexible! …With scheduling only, sadly.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:03 pm #

Ah, sad. I was hoping you’d put your foot behind your head at the meetup.

      • Katie 03/24/2013 at 4:54 am #

That’s not off the table. I’m sure we’d have to hit the Emergency Room for some other reason anyway. (Alcohol poisoning.)

  7. Maggie O'C 03/21/2013 at 10:19 am #

I am super duper jealous. That will be so much fun. Go in the fall b/c Austin is face of the sun, 6th circle of hell hot in the summer time.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:03 pm #

Seriously. I would die from heat stroke just thinking about how hot it is.

  8. The Hook 03/21/2013 at 10:12 am #

I hope your plan goes off without a hitch, gilrs. You deserve to have a kick-ass time with your fellow bloggers/extended dysfunctional family!
    Good luck!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 5:02 pm #

      You won’t be there?!

      • The Hook 03/24/2013 at 7:02 am #

I doubt it. I have neither the time nor the money…. honey!

  9. La La 03/21/2013 at 10:03 am #

    Can’t wait!

    • La La 03/21/2013 at 10:04 am #

The October 25 is good for me too, fyi.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:54 pm #

I can’t either. My brain can’t handle the awesomeness of this.

  10. tracy fulks 03/21/2013 at 9:30 am #

    October 25th-27th! Fuck yeah!

  11. calahan 03/21/2013 at 9:25 am #

October is a win, it seems. IF I can save up for airfare and hotel, this will be a lot of fun.

  12. GiggsMcGill Jill 03/21/2013 at 9:25 am #

*Prepared to party for 48 hours on whichever date the majority chooses!*

  13. 1tric 03/21/2013 at 9:05 am #

Bah humbug. I think I’ll organize one for the other two Irish bloggers in the world. We can just go to the pub!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:49 pm #

Oh man, I’d LOVE to go to Ireland and have a meetup there. It’s on my bucket list.

      • 1tric 03/23/2013 at 5:40 pm #

Any time. Any excuse for a good night out or day or weekend!

or even a Road Trip,,,,those are even funner!!

      • becca3416 03/21/2013 at 8:54 am #

Great thinking! I’d be so elated to get some Canadians in on the trip. After all, y’all do make up what seems to be 95% of all bloggers ever.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:48 pm #

      Thanks for sharing!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:49 pm #

CARPOOL!!!!!! Would love to have some Canadians.

  15. Just Another Canadian Gurl 03/21/2013 at 8:37 am #

Oh,,,and i’m totally reblogging this on my blog,,,for my local Canuck friends,,,maybe we can all come together!

  16. Ericka Clay 03/21/2013 at 8:11 am #

Yayyyy!!! Okay I voted on Becca’s but I’ll do it twice: August 23rd-25th – Oh and I can vouch that Houston is super sexy, too. After all, I live here. πŸ™‚

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:48 pm #

I bet Houston has an “Ericka Clay Day”

      • Ericka Clay 03/26/2013 at 8:53 am #

They do! It’s also known as “Hide Your Cat” day.

  17. The Cutter 03/21/2013 at 7:41 am #

Wait, nobody said there would be advanced planning required. I mean, how am I supposed to make any decisions about the Fall before the NFL schedule has been released?

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:47 pm #

We didn’t think about that. You’ll just have to take a risk. We’re way more fun than some guys spanking each other while wearing spandex.

  18. Stacie Chadwick 03/21/2013 at 7:24 am #

That summit is sure to provide ample blog content, possibly written from the Travis County Jail. =p

  19. Brother Jon 03/21/2013 at 6:40 am #

Well, I think you guys just made my day. The Girl is from Texas….which means I have to come now. This is going to be great. And lucky for me I am my own Clergy Man. Just one thing though…the person you met on the plane that you would like to sleep with? Did you happen to just watch Frost/Nixon before you wrote this?

    • becca3416 03/21/2013 at 7:16 am #

      Yay!!!!

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:46 pm #

She is from Texas? YES! She needs to come along too. She needs to see what kind of company you’ve been keeping πŸ˜‰

  20. Carrie Rubin 03/21/2013 at 6:13 am #

So cool that you guys are doing this. I look forward to reading about it!

  21. Sounds like a great place to meet up. I’ve heard Austin is great. Wonder if I can make it. My high school reunion is coming up around the same time. Oh, the decision which one to go to…yeah, right! haha. πŸ™‚

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:45 pm #

Please, please, please come! Word on the street is Bill might make it too. Plus, Rebecca Sassoon lives there. It could be a mini Expats meetup too πŸ™‚

  22. The Waiting 03/21/2013 at 5:03 am #

Austin is my favorite last name ever! It is also where I had my honeymoon πŸ˜‰ I REALLY want to make it! Let’s see what I can do…..

    • becca3416 03/21/2013 at 7:15 am #

      Summon your powers Emily πŸ™‚

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:44 pm #

You had your honeymoon in Austin? How cool! Yes, you need to be there!

      • The Waiting 03/23/2013 at 4:51 pm #

Yes we did! It was delightful. You gals picked a good city.

  23. stephrogers 03/21/2013 at 4:45 am #

Ok so just on the off chance that I happen to win lotto or something and somehow get the $$$ to fly there from Sydney, I’d be voting for Oct 25th to give myself the longest possible time to organise passports etc. Given that this is probably somewhere between a long shot and a pipe dream feel free to disregard my vote if necessary.

    • Pixie Girl 03/21/2013 at 6:41 am #

I’ll chip in with exactly the same comment as it’s unlikely I’ll make it from London… but really wanna read about it!

      • mrmarymuthafuckingpoppins 03/21/2013 at 11:36 am #

you know if everyone chips in we could help make that happen. We should call it Pixie’s Coming to America’s fund

        • Pixie Girl 03/21/2013 at 11:38 am #

LET’S! Let’s have this fund! Awesome idea!

ps. Mr. Mary I think we need to catch up on e-mail.

        • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:42 pm #

Mr. Mary- always full of ideas!

      • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:42 pm #

You should start a Chip In fund! I’m sure plenty of people would help you out.

    • Jen and Tonic 03/23/2013 at 4:42 pm #

There are a few Australian bloggers. You should host a “Down Under” edition!

  24. H.E. ELLIS 03/21/2013 at 4:22 am #

GAH!!!! I didn’t know about this! I vote October 25th also. Gives me more time to save up. πŸ™‚

  25. Just Another Canadian Gurl 03/21/2013 at 4:11 am #
