Big ups to everyone who participated! I apologize to those without a Twitter account as you weren’t able to fully participate, but that’s what the other 11 days are for! So what is today’s challenge?
Spreading a little (holiday) cheer.
The internet is wrought with trolls, malware and Aggregator sites which profit off of other people’s work. There are also tons of things out there that make us super warm in our hearts. Let’s focus on that today because I don’t want Sips of Jen and Tonic to become the Debbie Downer of the interwebz.
I want you to comment with a video, picture, inspirational blog, quote, song or whatever else that makes you happy. Just something that puts a little pep in your step for one reason or another. We can all read what everyone else has posted and get really happy and possibly naked afterwards.
I’ll go ahead and get the ball rolling by posting a few of my favorite videos on the internet. I’m choosing to post videos because I get lost in the YouTube web for hours, and consider myself a video connoisseur. Or I’m someone without a life. Either way.
Spandy Andy’s sexy beach party. This is a guy who wants to bring smiles to people by dancing all over the world in spandex. I love everything about this except for the fact that he stole my signature club dance move at :43.
Webcam 101 for Seniors. I want to be this badass and having this much fun with my significant other when I’m their age. A special shout out to them since they’re locals!
Deaf baby hears his mother after implant. I get super emotional after watching this video. Imagine your child hearing your voice for the first time after not being able to for 8 months. WEEP.

I was going to post the cochlear implant baby video when I first started reading your blog, but of course you already have it! It’s pretty amazing video you can’t but help feeling the wonder even on the fifth time watching.
Congrats to the Weebs, Maedez and Calahan on well-deserved props!
This is just an interesting aside about the Cochlear implant baby – many Deaf people (with an intentional “D”) may not like that video because being deaf is a cultural thing- Deaf Pride, and the implant was (when I was a Deaf Studies minor) very controversial. So I find this very interesting – how different groups view this particular video.
And I’m not against the video – it’s very amazing what can be done with science – I’m just curious about how differently it might be interpreted from a sociological point of view.
I agree Denise that people may view this video differently. It wasn’t so much that the baby could hear that got me, but his truly honest whole-baby expression of love. That being said, it’s very true that for Deaf people this may take away from their whole experience and culture. It’s like putting a solution in a place where there wasn’t a problem and calling it miraculous.
But that baby face – sigh… so cute!
I definitely understood where you were coming from, and I do know there is some “controversy” surrounding this type of transplant. I think I view it as parents who are trying to do what they think is the right thing for their child, and the moment the baby can hear his mom…what a powerful moment that must be for the family.
Also, I find it really interesting and cool that you minored in Deaf Studies. Do you still sign?
I find the whole thing quite interesting and I don’t know what i’d do if my child was deaf and able to have the implant.
I do sign some – but am not fluent anymore. I taught my son how to sign before he could speak – and it is so cute to see a little baby signing – and you realize how much babies do understand even though they cannot vocalize it yet.
I don’t have elf shoes, but I did write this while wearing an elf hat. Does that count?
