    Whoa! I do NOT want to work where you do, my dear. And lord, I don’t need to know what a donkey punch is, either. It sounds like it hurts!

    Seriously funny, though. A few characters from my own past popped into my head while I was reading. Now if only I could make them disappear again. Sigh. 😉

      I hope to GOD you never find out what a donkey punch is. It’s the stuff nightmares are made of.

      Luckily, I don’t work there anymore BUT I do work at a place that will help me make a fine sequel to this post.

    Your grasp of the fauna of the typical office is hilarious and so accurate a portrait that it makes me wish I were back in “Officeville” instead of retired ( Well, no. I’d rather read your blogs,) Funny, funny post.

    Jen: It has been so long since I actually had co-workers – over a decade – it’s hard for me to remember, or maybe I have blanked them out they were so bad. However, I used to work in the world of interior design and you could ONLY imagine the types I had to deal with then. One comes to mind – the rich kid, prima donna, designer wearing (flaunting) type whose daddy pays for everything and thinks they’ve got talent (but don’t – really, really don’t). Oh, the design schemes that were put together nearly made my head explode.

    Priceless piece, as usual.

      I LOVED the designer-wearing daddy type- so true. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.

    Greetings Jen!

    Oh boy. Just reading about this makes me cringe! But yes, they are everywhere! It’s like there are special factories producing these type of characters, just to make sure that every company has the same feeling to it. Because we don’t want to go to a workplace and say ‘Now where is the Pervert?! Or the Control freak for that matter?! For the sake of keeping a balance in this company, we DO NEED TO HAVE THEM!’…

    They do provide for awesome writing material haha.

    LOVE this! I will re-share it again later! People need to read this! (they need read your entire blog, but let’s take baby steps hehe)

      It would seem that way. It’s to help us all instantly feel comfortable when we start news jobs 😀

    So so true. I’ve worked in so many temp jobs throughout my life that I know all of these people. As soon as you start in each new job you will have them sussed out by lunch time. But you’ve left out the office bitch, the office (wannabe) hunk, the boss’s favourite and the company yes man…I will read this before starting a new office job (the horror), least it will cheer me up though.

      I’ve been promising (since 2007) to write a follow up. I’ll make sure to include the types you mentioned because yes, every office has them. If we all have to deal with them, the least we can do is commiserate together.

  8. Jen, this is hysterically funny and too sadly true of most work environments. I have seen all the above and only wish I could say what you have written. Another brilliant post! For the love of Jen, pass this along; Tweet it to everyone you know, and maybe someone will copy and paste what she has written and put it in an unsuspecting cubicle!

      I’m going to start shopping this around to people who work in the HR field and tell them they need to give this out to people upon hire 😉

        Oh! I could work in the HR field and I would have loved this list! But then again, I wasn’t a typically HR employee haha. Didn’t care that much for rules.
