12 Days of Christmas- Day 2

11 Dec

Hooked on Tonics, you are magnificent beasts! Yesterday was a very successful first day for the 12 Days of Christmas bonanza.

Recap:

  • I discovered new bloggers, and I hope the rest of you did as well by reading through the comments section
  • @Freshly_Pressed took notice of the recommendations everyone sent
  • Madame “Midas Touch” Weebles managed to get A Smell Press Life Freshly Pressed!
Basically, we're taking over the internet

Basically, we’re taking over WordPress.

Big ups to everyone who participated! I apologize to those without a Twitter account as you weren’t able to fully participate, but that’s what the other 11 days are for! So what is today’s challenge?

Spreading a little (holiday) cheer.

The internet is wrought with trolls, malware and Aggregator sites which profit off of other people’s work. There are also tons of things out there that make us super warm in our hearts. Let’s focus on that today because I don’t want Sips of Jen and Tonic to become the Debbie Downer of the interwebz.

I want you to comment with a video, picture, inspirational blog, quote, song or whatever else that makes you happy. Just something that puts a little pep in your step for one reason or another. We can all read what everyone else has posted and get really happy and possibly naked afterwards.

I’ll go ahead and get the ball rolling by posting a few of my favorite videos on the internet. I’m choosing to post videos because I get lost in the YouTube web for hours, and consider myself a video connoisseur. Or I’m someone without a life. Either way.

Spandy Andy’s sexy beach party. This is a guy who wants to bring smiles to people by dancing all over the world in spandex. I love everything about this except for the fact that he stole my signature club dance move at :43.

Webcam 101 for Seniors. I want to be this badass and having this much fun with my significant other when I’m their age. A special shout out to them since they’re locals!

Deaf baby hears his mother after implant. I get super emotional after watching this video. Imagine your child hearing your voice for the first time after not being able to for 8 months. WEEP.

Okay, now on to the winners! Yes, I’ll be giving out two prizes today. One will be to Madame Weebles because she got someone Freshly Pressed. Worthy of a prize, no? Behold the power of The Weebmeister! *cue thunder and lightning*

The second prize will go to the person Random Number Generator picks, and that person is…Calahan! E-mail me to let me know which prize you want, and also to tell me how my brilliance knows no bounds.

Good luck on today’s contest kiddies!

You just have to watch this if you haven’t seen it already. Also, the blog it is posted on is brilliant!
Hope you like my pics. The first 2 make me laugh every time I watch them and the last is just special.

      HILARIOUS!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 10:31 am #

I am going to get a raise when I do that dance at the Christmas Party!!!! Also, how did that guy in the first video NOT break every bone in his body?!

Thanks for sharing that writing video, I’ve now shared it too.

      • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 2:44 pm #

He is one funny guy! I expect a royalty if you do get a raise you know. You should also have a look at the “sick cat” dance and the “romance dance”…also good for the Christmas party. I can post if you like but just didn’t want to overload you. The writing one is wonderful isn’t it! Jen

  2. Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 5:52 am #

I just saw La La and me’s future self in the website cam for seniors video! Noooooo!

    • La La 12/11/2012 at 6:36 am #

Haha I can totally see that!!! At least we’ll be in the same room.

      • Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 7:22 am #

Except you are the one that makes the monkey faces.

        • La La 12/11/2012 at 12:30 pm #

It’s true. I have the best monkey face.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 10:33 am #

I could see you still asking her to drop her dress when you’re 70+

      • Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 10:36 am #

        Duh!

        • becca3416 12/11/2012 at 11:05 am #

He is also still so sweet to her:

“Look how pretty your hair is”
“Whatever you do, you do it fine”
          “Give me them boobies”

          Last one is paraphrased.

          • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:07 am #

She was messing with the camera, and he was fumbling around for Viagra.

          • Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 11:41 am #

            Where you there?

  3. Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 5:55 am #

Madame Weebs is just super duper awesome!

I have no idea if anyone can see this – but it makes me smile – it’s my kid singing “I’m a Believer” when he was 5 or 6 …. (ignore the monkey on the bass guitar that can’t sing).

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1304025522504&set=vb.1286475617&type=3&theater

I also love this song: it makes me smile every time

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 10:56 am #

Was that you in the video with your son?! I loved how cool he looked. In regards to the second video, I’d say that I wish friendship was that easy as an adult, but it kind of is on WordPress.

      • Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 11:09 am #

Yes – that’s me & my husband, Scott performing for at Dorian’s schools Holiday Concert 4 years ago. He’s a real musician; I’m a trained monkey dork. My son is likely to be a real musician.

I love that song ~ I, too, wish it was so.
At first I thought one of the lyrics was
“Teacher smacks our hides against the wall” – hee hee…um…not quite…

And yes, WP makes it much easier to find friends.

      • Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 11:11 am #

        Opps – he’s SEVEN not Five – sorry….I’m a poor memory mom

  4. La La 12/11/2012 at 6:59 am #

Yay Weebs!!! Congrats. This song, video and group are very inspirational and they make me super happy. http://youtu.be/UVG1hrn5sGs

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 10:59 am #

I love Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros! I think this video really shows how passionate they are about what they do. So cool.

      • La La 12/11/2012 at 12:29 pm #

Cool, me too! I love Jade. They’re all so willing to enjoy and just be them themselves. I truly adore that about this group.

  5. maedez 12/11/2012 at 7:09 am #

I am extra thrilled that Madame Weebles got someone Freshly Pressed. Oh, wait. That’s me. No wonder. As for you, your brilliance absolutely knows no bounds.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:02 am #

You know exactly how to sweet talk a lady, don’t you?

      Congrats on your FP status!

  6. Fern DeVilliers 12/11/2012 at 7:11 am #

Watch out Spandy Andy. My two sons have already started shopping for Speedos to wear in Jamaica when we go on our trip at Christmas. Pictures to follow. Just wait until we get there LOL!!!!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:03 am #

You better vlog that! I want to see some hip thrusting, maybe a little Mambo move, Beyonce-type booty shaking.

  7. Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 7:22 am #

I thought I would share my Pinterest board of funny pictures:

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:05 am #

OHMIGOD! That second picture of “Guess which year I was single” is hilarious! I also see that you’re a butt man. I’ve got a few pictures from my, um, personal collection that I’ll text to you.

      • Christopher De Voss 12/11/2012 at 11:40 am #

I’ll be impressed if you can take pictures of your own butt.So hard to do.

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 4:18 pm #

Especially love the feminine product “pussy wind” and “the inflatable unicorn”!

  8. twindaddy 12/11/2012 at 8:10 am #

This video makes me happy for a couple of reasons. The first is because Donald Duck fucking rules. The second is because any time Baby C is grumpy I can turn this video on and he’ll go from cranky to laughing in the blink of an eye.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:10 am #

This takes me WAY back!! And really, anything that soothes a crying child deserves to go on ANY “best of” list.

      • twindaddy 12/11/2012 at 12:08 pm #

Absolutely. I love me some Donald Duck.

        • calahan 12/11/2012 at 12:55 pm #

We quote this anytime we eat apples. Good call, twindaddy.

          • twindaddy 12/11/2012 at 12:57 pm #

*bows* Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here until she bans me.

          • calahan 12/11/2012 at 12:58 pm #

I’d better hurry up and appreciate you, then.

          • twindaddy 12/11/2012 at 1:07 pm #

            Thanks. She’s ruthless.

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 4:09 pm #

      Oh Donald! Love these oldies!

  9. twindaddy 12/11/2012 at 8:12 am #

Oh, and this video is one of my all-time favorites.

  10. Words for Worms 12/11/2012 at 8:17 am #

This really has nothing to do with anything, but… I LOVE your blog name because I LOVE gin & tonic. I was thinking about your awesomeness at the grocery store and decided to pick up some gin… And tonic. But the tonic I got in a 6 pack of tiny bottles so I wouldn’t feel the need to drink myself stupid before the fizz gave out on the liter. It was a week night, after all. Cheers to you!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:17 am #

I just teared up. If I can help even one person drink themselves stupid, then I’ve made my mark on this world.

    • Lyssapants 12/11/2012 at 9:48 pm #

Not that you asked my opinion, but while I love Jen and Tonic, I HATE gin and tonic. barf-worthy.

      • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:54 pm #

As long as you love me that’s all that matters.

      • Words for Worms 12/12/2012 at 6:42 am #

What are you going to do if you get malaria?! The quinine in the tonic will help you. The gin will get you drunk so you don’t care.

  11. Carrie Rubin 12/11/2012 at 9:02 am #

This isn’t warm and fuzzy, but this video of Will Farrell and Jimmy Fallon singing about their “Tight Pants” always makes me smile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv7Ts4v5_Bs

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:18 am #

Any man who buys skinny jeans should be forced to sing this before purchasing them.

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 4:00 pm #

Put a sock in it Will! ….oh you already did!

      • Carrie Rubin 12/11/2012 at 4:13 pm #

        But I bet he’ll deny it. ;)

        • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 4:19 pm #

Will Ferrell always makes me laugh….maybe it was salami?

          • Carrie Rubin 12/11/2012 at 4:21 pm #

That would make sense, because then he’d have a snack for later.

          • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 4:23 pm #

            Num num num

  12. El Guapo 12/11/2012 at 9:04 am #

At last! Calahan getting the recognition he saw mightily deserves!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:19 am #

      ALL HAIL CALAHAN!

    • calahan 12/11/2012 at 12:57 pm #

Yeah, it’s about time I be recognized for being a randomly generated number. I work really hard at that and, well, it’s nice to have someone take notice. Ultimately, I’d like to take this further and become a B-11 or, dare I say it, G-22 in a Bingo game.

      • El Guapo 12/11/2012 at 4:12 pm #

Woah – let’s walk before we run!

        G-22. I’ve never heard the like…

        • calahan 12/11/2012 at 4:45 pm #

Go big or go home, isn’t that what they say?

  13. iRuniBreathe 12/11/2012 at 9:21 am #

You and your good cheer; it’s so generous. Do you have elf shoes with bells on them too?
I was going to post the cochlear implant baby video when I first started reading your blog, but of course you already have it! It’s pretty amazing video you can’t but help feeling the wonder even on the fifth time watching.
Congrats to the Weebs, Maedez and Calahan on well-deserved props!

    • Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 10:03 am #

This is just an interesting aside about the Cochlear implant baby – many Deaf people (with an intentional “D”) may not like that video because being deaf is a cultural thing- Deaf Pride, and the implant was (when I was a Deaf Studies minor) very controversial. So I find this very interesting – how different groups view this particular video.

      • Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 10:09 am #

And I’m not against the video – it’s very amazing what can be done with science – I’m just curious about how differently it might be interpreted from a sociological point of view.

      • iRuniBreathe 12/11/2012 at 11:22 am #

I agree Denise that people may view this video differently. It wasn’t so much that the baby could hear that got me, but his truly honest whole-baby expression of love. That being said, it’s very true that for Deaf people this may take away from their whole experience and culture. It’s like putting a solution in a place where there wasn’t a problem and calling it miraculous.

      • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:22 am #

I definitely understood where you were coming from, and I do know there is some “controversy” surrounding this type of transplant. I think I view it as parents who are trying to do what they think is the right thing for their child, and the moment the baby can hear his mom…what a powerful moment that must be for the family.

Also, I find it really interesting and cool that you minored in Deaf Studies. Do you still sign?

        • Rutabaga the Mercenary Researcher 12/11/2012 at 11:30 am #

I find the whole thing quite interesting and I don’t know what i’d do if my child was deaf and able to have the implant.
I do sign some – but am not fluent anymore. I taught my son how to sign before he could speak – and it is so cute to see a little baby signing – and you realize how much babies do understand even though they cannot vocalize it yet.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:20 am #

I don’t have elf shoes, but I did write this while wearing an elf hat. Does that count?

That video is amazing! Gets me every time.

      • iRuniBreathe 12/11/2012 at 11:27 am #

An elf hat counts. Especially with your long hair I could envision elf ears. And if you can hum xmas carols that works as well. you are the cheer-monger.

  14. saradraws 12/11/2012 at 9:44 am #

I can’t post my fave now, because watching all the others has made me late to do responsibilities. BUT, I ADORE YOU ENDLESSLY for doing this. You make me happy. Or Hapz in the interspeak. I just made that up. I’m a web smart people.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 11:23 am #

You make ME happy. Also, your internet lingo is really kicking up. Pretty soon you’ll be too sophisticated for me.

  15. Erin McNaughton 12/11/2012 at 10:04 am #

This song always makes me smile. :)

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 12:24 pm #

Good song! Wanna know something weird? This song came out 5 years ago!

    • saradraws 12/11/2012 at 2:45 pm #

      I love love loved that

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 3:55 pm #

      • Erin McNaughton 12/11/2012 at 3:56 pm #

Woo hoo! Glad you guys enjoyed it! It’s seriously my go to pick-me-up when I’m having a bad day. You can’t listen to that song and NOT want to dance and sing along. :)

  16. daniheart21 12/11/2012 at 10:12 am #

I love love love the senior one. so flipping cute. You are right Jen we would be so lucky to have that at their age. I wanted to share the vimeo on my timeline of the Wildlife Waystaion, but I cannot figure out how to do it. It’s not a youtube video. sighs.. it makes me smile.

  17. becca3416 12/11/2012 at 10:59 am #

I love you for doing this. I can now be unproductive for HOURS. Thanks for pushing me towards this crucial step of my day.

I would marry Spandy Andy. We could have a duo act, him in spandex, me in long johns. MFEO.

    Here you go:

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 12:26 pm #

This video really speaks to me. It takes the edge off of sexting when your phone keeps saying, “You’ve got such a huge duck!”

      • becca3416 12/11/2012 at 12:28 pm #

Bahhhhh! Or receiving, “I want to make you coke”.

        • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 12:37 pm #

That is the sexiest DIY proposal I’ve ever heard.

      • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 3:49 pm #

What a scream, posted this to my 14year old and two of his friends. Hilarious!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 12:48 pm #

Mean girl looks like my physics teacher in high school. Same person? Could be.

      • nikkix2 12/11/2012 at 12:50 pm #

Does she have the big hips and camel toe?? Then maybe!

  19. calahan 12/11/2012 at 1:02 pm #

I’m a sucker for this video:

    • calahan 12/11/2012 at 1:03 pm #

I don’t know how to embed it like Becca’s fancy video.

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 3:39 pm #

Me too…awwwww. We should never give up on our children…or nature! Jen xx

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:15 pm #

I was seriously on the edge of my seat. I wanted baby squirrel to get up there so badly!!

  20. Soul Walker 12/11/2012 at 1:27 pm #

Is it weird that when he says, “whatever you do you do fine,” that I almost cried?

  21. Soul Walker 12/11/2012 at 1:29 pm #

Also, I love when the dude is doing push-ups right next to the girl sunbathing.

  22. Adam S 12/11/2012 at 2:32 pm #

    Gets me every time!

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 3:33 pm #

Ha Ha…this is fact I’m sure!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:18 pm #

I am SURE this is how guys feel when they go there. Having a thumb up your butt is so not normal, unless you’re me. Then it’s just Thursday.

  23. Bill Friday 12/11/2012 at 2:36 pm #

    Could just be me, but…

    • jiltaroo 12/11/2012 at 3:29 pm #

This gave me goose bumps. Thank you, lovely. Jen

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:20 pm #

I love the story line in this, and I think anyone who can dance like this is incredible.

  24. SocietyRed 12/11/2012 at 2:42 pm #

This is the greatest idea and post! Such great videos!
Ever seen Mini Daddy? I hope not…

Was that baby’s name Jonathan? Good name, and that was really neat too.

    • Brother Jon 12/11/2012 at 3:30 pm #

Here’s my video. From “I want that hoodie so bad” I was completely sucked in. Almost as good as Hot Koolaid.

  26. Madame Weebles 12/11/2012 at 3:26 pm #

Wooo hooo! I love winning stuff. I will gracefully bow out of today’s challenge to let someone else bask in the glory, but also because I can’t decide what video I would post. There are too many good ones. I love the ones posted here, though, a lot of these are vids I hadn’t seen before.

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:35 pm #

I hadn’t seen a lot of these videos either. Everyone has impeccable taste though.

Send me your prize choice and address!

  27. Viciously Sweet 12/11/2012 at 4:12 pm #

    It’s Christmastime… and I’m addicted to this:

I want to do this everywhere I go this Holiday Season!

    • Jen and Tonic 12/11/2012 at 9:38 pm #

That moment when he’s dancing like a maniac next to the guy on the couch is hilarious!!!!!!

    • Lyssapants 12/11/2012 at 9:52 pm #

Ok, so I have seriously wanted to be a part of a flash mob soooooo bad and this video reminds me of that like cake reminds someone of a diet.

    • Lyssapants 12/11/2012 at 9:55 pm #

This guy needs to get together and do a video with the spandex guy.

That surprised me! I guess Australians are friendly ;)

I wouldn’t mind some of that friendly attention from some of those Australian boys if ya know what I mean ;)

Great videos, Jen. They cover the full range of ages even. My son thought the speedo guy was going to get arrested. No, no, just shaking his ass. (I didn’t say that to him!)

On his Facebook page he did say that he’s gotten kicked out of places, but he says most people are really cool about it. Honestly, how can you NOT smile at someone who just wants to dance around and have a good time?

First – high five, Weebles, and congrats, Calahan.

I have a horribly unhealthy obsession with Talking Heads and David Byrne – they (he is) are my inspirado!

People used to JAM back in the day. Nobody gets funky like this anymore.

You wanna know what makes me happy? Whales! Whales make me happy!!

Dang it, I have THE PERFECT video to show you but the one thing holding me back is that my full name is in the video. Dammittttttt. It’s very Batman-y and very Vyvacious. Complete with me prancing around in my Batman costume showing off my bellydancing skills AND all my Batman paraphernalia… I think I’ve said too much.
