That was wonderful! As others said – it was great to see your face! (I was so surprised when you didn’t turn up as a cartoon! ^.^ hahaha) And like you, I’ve become so surprised at what a family and supportive group the blogging community is! It’s so much fun, and so comforting to read everyone’s stories and have them all comment back on your work!
    Ok, thankful for:
-Family, and created family (when you have a small family, you just kind of make everyone part of your family!)
-My laptop, which allows me to keep in contact with others (and of course surf the web)
-Pets, for the unconditional love and happiness they give :)

It is fun, isn’t it? I never knew this many cool, funny, intelligent people existed. Especially in one place! I wish teleporting had already been invented because I would just randomly show up in your bathrooms when you guys were taking showers.

      • GiggsMcGill Jill 11/25/2012 at 1:31 pm #

I’d totally just pull the curtain aside and be like, “Wassup Jen? Grab a soda if you want – whatevs.” ^.^

Happy Thanksgiving Jen. I am thankful for you, my crazy friend. xo

  3. Madame Weebles 11/23/2012 at 12:16 pm #

You’re so adorable. It’s almost painful. You don’t need to be funnier or more clever, you’re fucking awesome as is. And I’m glad you have so many wonderful things to be thankful for. You deserve them!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:26 pm #

The cool thing about blogging is that you can just be who you are. There are people who have different strengths, different ways of looking at the world, but there’s a place for all of us.

  4. calahan 11/23/2012 at 10:01 am #

Great video. You are exactly the same person as you are when you write, I love that.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:25 pm #

Really? Good to know. I’m always afraid you guys will see my inner psychopath.

  5. speaker7 11/23/2012 at 8:46 am #

Your blog is also big in my blogosphere. I’m very thankful for this blogging community…and that November ends in seven days because crapnozzle, is this 30-day challenge hard.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:23 pm #

You’re telling me! You are welcome to slap me for suggesting it.

  6. aliceatwonderland 11/23/2012 at 4:15 am #

Very cool. Like you, I have so much to be thankful for. We’ve never been rich, but we’ve never really wanted for anything – mostly because we have so many great people around us – family and friends. I am thankful for them at Thanksgiving. I am thankful when I get to leave them after Thanksgiving. We’ve lost many extended family members, so I’m happy for those I have left. Even if they drive me insane.

I am thankful for my kids. Though I miss some aspects of their baby and toddlerhoods (not the diapers or the late night parties) I am SO thrilled at the young women they are becoming before my eyes. So smart, empathetic, thoughtful – every day they astound me with observations about life that most adults wouldn’t realize. Until you’ve heard a 12 year old sing with such passion “War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing.” you haven’t truly heard the song.

And of course I’m so so so thankful for this blogging community! I started on blogger, posting for myself, totally selfish, hoping to compile the same little book or whatever. Some friends in “real life” liked my weird stories, and rants, and thought they were funny. There were maybe two or three readers (family or friend) that I nagged to read it. Finally I got daring and made it public. Then I moved to WordPress, and started finding other blogs. I commented on them – and the people responded. And this whole amazing world opened up! I have so many friends – like you, people I consider real friends – that I never would have gotten otherwise. People like me that I wouldn’t find in my area of the world, who are hilarious, and smart, and kind, and just incredible.

I find myself looking at life differently, too, finding ways to make what seemed the worst experience funny – because so many things we fret about are in the great scheme of things. Like you, I have worked harder on my own writing, because there is nothing I love more than making people laugh. It is the greatest and most beautiful sound in the world – and a “you made me laugh so hard I peed my pants” or better “you made me laugh so I forgot what I was worried about.” literally makes my life. I love all you guys.

And I understand now why you made a Vlog. This is a long comment – even for me!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:22 pm #

I loved your long comment! There was no way you could have fit all you need to say in a two or three sentence comment.

I’m really glad you have those things to be proud of. It seems like you were already aware of them which means you’re always appreciative of the life you have. That’s awesome.

  7. MissFourEyes 11/22/2012 at 9:17 pm #

You always put a smile on my face. I loved your last one :)

  8. iRuniBreathe 11/22/2012 at 8:06 pm #

    Well done!
It was nice to get you from another angle. You seem very genuine.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:11 pm #

Thanks! I try to steer away from the douchier parts of me ;)

  9. The Bumble Files 11/22/2012 at 7:41 pm #

Jen, that was great! Thanks for taking the time to actually to talk to us. I now know another dimension of you! I’m most thankful for the people in my life. Most definitely. Like you, blogging has opened me up to a great community of people that seem as real as anyone I ever actually see in the flesh everyday. People are so generous and gracious.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:11 pm #

You’re absolutely right! Even though you’ve never met these people, they’re a very real part of your life. And as I said, some of these people are my real friends now, and I see them just the same as my “real life” ones.

  10. Fern DeVilliers 11/22/2012 at 6:08 pm #

We have that exact same lamp at our house – the one on the far right of your video frame. So nice to see you for real. It will totally make me like “reading” you all the more! Happy Thanksgiving.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:07 pm #

      IKEA!

It is nice to see someone’s face *hint hint*

  11. Ruby Tuesday 11/22/2012 at 4:52 pm #

I’m grateful for you. ‘Nuff said (for now). ;)

  12. Christopher De Voss 11/22/2012 at 4:17 pm #

I tried to watch this at a Walmart while waiting in line for a bike. Not a good idea. I’m going to puke my thanksgiving dinner up now. Great post, I’m guessing.

    • aliceatwonderland 11/23/2012 at 4:00 am #

Did you go to Black Friday (Thursday)? Was it insane?

      • Christopher De Voss 11/23/2012 at 5:07 am #

Wasn’t too bad. Went to the 8 o’clock sale which they ended up starting a little early. Got 3 bikes, some toys 1/2 price, and a fire pit. Well worth the effort.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 1:06 pm #

This blog + Walmart = heaving. Makes sense.

  13. Le Clown 11/22/2012 at 3:50 pm #

    Jen,
    1. Great vlog. Thank you for taking the time to make it. Really.
    2. I am thankful that my daughter is in bed, and that Yo Gabba Gabba has stopped playing.
    Le Clown

    • aliceatwonderland 11/23/2012 at 4:00 am #

Everyone should be thankful when that show stops playing. And your daughter (and son) are so precious. I wish I could post pics of mine. Jen is so brave to show her face and voice! It’s like, hey, she’s real!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:56 pm #

I’d definitely be thankful for the second thing too. When I lived with my nephew, he loved watched Teletubbies and The Wiggles. Nearly drove me insane.

  14. benzeknees 11/22/2012 at 2:21 pm #

Although I am Canadian & celebrated our Thanksgiving over a month ago, I am thankful you chose to do a video blog today because I enjoyed seeing your face & hearing your voice – it makes me feel like I know you better. Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:55 pm #

Happy belated Thanksgiving! There is something about hearing someone’s voice and seeing them “live” that makes it feel like you know them better.

  15. Bill Friday 11/22/2012 at 1:43 pm #

Sooooo Ms. Tonic… a VLOG today, is it?

Why is it that everything you do inspires me to copy (errr…) shamelessly steal (errr…) do more daring, original, creative things with my writing?

Like many people, I have had quite the off-the-record, personal roller coaster of a year from last Thanksgiving to this, but one thing I AM thankful for during that time is you. You’ve been a listening friend… a challenging encourager… and an inspiration for me to be my “most authentic best” at all times.

    Thank you Jenny.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:53 pm #

I inspire you? Funny, because you inspire me. Who was it that got me to do NaNoWriNO in the first place? And that poetry nonsense? Hmmmm?

Your last year has been pretty intense, but I must say, I’m in awe of how you’ve managed it all. You are one of the most level-headed, patient, mature people I’ve ever known. It’s incredible how you handle things with such grace. I need to let you start rubbing off on me.

      Thank YOU Señor Friday.

  16. Dani Heart 11/22/2012 at 1:03 pm #

hmmm a vlog… my wheels are spinning Ms. Sharp. I am grateful for the very basic things. Love, shelter, food, friends, paid bills, natural abilities. Every day I know how very lucky I am. I may do a post today myself, and I am seriously considering the move to WordPress and the new blog. I think I am nearing being ready. So grateful for that as well because I think it will be a positive move. :) You rock!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:47 pm #

YOU should make a vlog! Bring a little Dani happiness and cheer to the world :)

I hope you do move to WordPress. It’s easier to meet people, and you’ll handle the transition better than you think you will ;)

I’m thankful for your neverending positive personality. It makes life better.

  17. Paul M Chapman 11/22/2012 at 12:22 pm #

It’s always such a joy to see you! This was a lovely idea and though we don’t have Thanksgiving in the UK, I always have time to express my gratitude for things.

I’m super thankful that despite my fears- my health is generally good. There are people who have the same condition as me who have it thousands of times worse. For reassurance I frequent online support groups and I sometimes feel like I really shouldn’t be there because of how easy I have it in comparison.

I’m thankful for my wife who has been through hell and back and still fights on. i don’t know where she draws her strength from, but it’s an inspiration and I’m a better man for having her in my life.

I’m thankful that I still have both of my parents. My Dad attempted suicide and had several nervous breakdowns in the mid 90’s and still struggles with his alcoholism and loneliness, but I’m thankful beyond measure that he’s still around for me and in my life.

I’m thankful that my brother Tom made it home from Afghanistan safe from injury. I’m all too aware that other people didn’t and I count myself as blessed that we didn’t have to suffer in that way.
And I’m eternally grateful for a friend like you Jen….witty, wise, incredibly intelligent and with an enormous heart. Friends don’t come better than that and I’m thankful that you are a part of my life.
Happy thanksgiving to you and yours :)

    • jdanryan 11/22/2012 at 6:29 pm #

I’m glad to hear that Tom made it back, Paul. There are still too many that need to get their orders to stand down, and I hope the rest of them will come back soon as well.

      • Paul M Chapman 11/23/2012 at 9:50 am #

Thanks so much for your comment, and I’m totally with you. The sooner the war ends and people get back home to their loved ones, the better. Thanks again!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:45 pm #

I’m thankful for all of those things in your life too! Lou is a good woman, and I’m happy you have her there by you side during all of this. I know that your health has been a struggle, but I think you’ve handled it well considering it could be way worse. That takes determination, you know.

Having your brother gone on duty must have been scary. I feel for people whose loved ones are gone due to the war. Glad he’s home safely now.

I’m grateful to have met you, and that we’ve continued to be friends. It means a lot to me :)

  18. isawbobdylaninaspeedo 11/22/2012 at 11:54 am #

OMgosh…YOU are adorable. btw I am totally crushing on you now too. Happy Thanksgiving!!! This was wonderful! A voice and a face. Super Super COOL. I really liked what you are thankful for. We forget the simple things like you said…running water etc. and it seems this year I would not have so much to be thankful for but it is the opposite.
I am truly thankful for my kids. They are amazing, close. loving, funny, brilliant, thinkers. I love them.
I am thankful for my Ex Husband – he is a good dad, he helps me out a lot, he takes care of the kids in ways I cannot.
I am thankful for my health. My working brain. Breathing. Those things can be taken away at any moment.
I am thankful for my meager little financial state too.
I am thankful for the so many friends who have reached out to help me this year. It has truly been overwhelming.
I am thankful for my car. Sheesh.
I am thankful for this laptop which I almost left behind because I technically didn’t purchase it, and at the last minute I grabbed it. I didn’t know where I would be, if I would have a phone, or a place to stay, and it has truly saved my life because of the people I have been able to reach because of it. Family and friends and new friends and jobs…
    AND YOU.
I am thankful a friend suggested I start a blog about my experiences.
I too am very thankful to what this blog has turned into. Connections and sharing and a real place to go to. Friends, opening up, rooting for one another, standing by one another. It truly has changed my life.
    Thanks Jen!!! This was spectacular!!!

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:42 pm #

      Crushes all the way around!

You have definitely been working towards a life worth being thankful for. It hasn’t been easy on you, but you’ve done it with a courage and strength that I admire. I’m thankful that you show me that we can all push past the suckiness and get to the good things in life.

      • isawbobdylaninaspeedo 11/23/2012 at 7:57 pm #

Thank you so much!! It is definitely not the easy way out…but to me…it is the ONLY way I am going to do things right now, and that is my independence comes first so I can be strong for my kids. And me. The good things in life are all around us. They really are. I would have scawfed at this job two years ago… in fact I did. I was humbled, and I get it now. This job means ME. It means I can pay bills and buy food. CHEERS!!!!!! You rock Jen.

  19. TJLubrano 11/22/2012 at 11:32 am #

Happy Thanksgiving to you Lovely Jen! Such a sweet, sweet video :) I could ramble about a lot of things, but one of the biggest things I’m grateful for are the people around me that support me with my art and follow me on my journey. I wouldn’t be able to do this if it weren’t for them.

You know, I think your site is one of the funniest (if not the funniest, but I’m probably a wee bit biased) around. Having a place where everyone can be themselves and chat about what you’ve written is just amazing.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:34 pm #

I bet everyone supporting you is HAPPY to support you. I know I am! You are so talented, and I think when you see someone “going places in life” it’s hard not to root them on from the sidelines.

Hey, go ahead and be biased. This is the greatest blog in the world!!!! ;)

      • TJLubrano 11/25/2012 at 1:31 pm #

Okay! This is the GREATEST BLOG in the WORLD :D

        No joke.

        • Jen and Tonic 11/28/2012 at 12:52 pm #

I paid her to say this!

          • TJLubrano 11/30/2012 at 6:43 am #

I could have gotten money for saying that…??? :|

  20. Storkhunter 11/22/2012 at 11:30 am #

Jen – it’s so nice to “see” you and hear you. I love your thankful list because you mention all the things most people take for granted.
    Here’s my list:
My family – my husband is one in a million. He’s supportive, he’s understanding and he gets it when I just need to be miserable and my son is such a determined fighter, I have learned a lot from my little man.
My home – we have a specially adapted disabled apartment and it fell into our laps by sheer serendipity. It’s a great apartment and I love living here. I have fantastic neighbours who are always willing to help out.
My friends – who understand what I’m going through
My blog – I totally agree with you about how awesome the blogging community is. It’s definitely not an individual activity – it’s like a weird family. I love the comments, the interaction. I love that it makes me think and gives me an outlet for my writing. I love that I can be completely honest without judgement. I love all my readers. Blogging is now part of my life and I am grateful to every single one of you who takes the time to read, like and participate.

    • isawbobdylaninaspeedo 11/22/2012 at 11:55 am #

      cheers!! This was lovely.

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:32 pm #

It sounds like you’ve got a really happy, great life. You should be proud of getting to this point in your life. Some people wander around aimlessly doing the wrong things, and being around the wrong people.

I’m happy to have met you here!

  21. La La 11/22/2012 at 11:24 am #

You’re lovely. Happy Thanksgiving! My family is nice and crazy too (don’t know anyone who doesn’t have one).

    • Jen and Tonic 11/23/2012 at 12:31 pm #

All families are kind of a bit crazy, aren’t they? Hope you had a good T-Day :)
